Adjunct Lecturer participates in the U.S. Department of State Global Women’s Mentoring Partnership

Carol Kariuki, an adjunct lecturer at the Strathmore Law School and CEO of Totally Sorted Limited, was one of 16 women leaders from 13 countries who participated in the US Department of State Global Women’s Mentoring Partnership program. The program is a partnership between the U.S. Department of State, the Fortune Most Powerful Women and Vital Voices.

The program sought to equip the participants with business and leadership skills, as well as help expand their networks and inspire them to give back to their communities through service. Carol Kariuki shadowed Jami Wintz McKeon, partner and chair of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius, one of the top 20 global law firms.  Here she was exposed to Morgan Lewis’ procedures and practices and access to a wide network of highly experienced professionals. The 4-week program gave Carol the opportunity to interact with members of the finance team, human resources, e-discovery, marketing and information technology departments. Following her consulting in legal practice management as well as teaching the same at the law school, this experience was very beneficial to Carol as it exposed her to various areas of operation in a law firm.

Carol’s major take away from the program was the place of technology with regards to the effectiveness of how the law firm ran, as well as the importance of hiring a capable team. Following her 15 years legal practice experience, Carol Kariuki is keen on using the knowledge that she has acquired during the course of the program to better serve law firms in Kenya.
