Strathmore Law School Win All Kenya Moot Competition 2nd Time in a Row

Eight Strathmore Law School students took up the task of representing the university at the Annual All Kenya Moot Competition that was held on 29th January, 2016, at Kenyatta school of Law. Three teams were selected; two appellate category teams comprising of two oralists and a researcher; and an arbitration team that had only two oralists.

From sleepless nights working on their written arguments, to spending their weekends in school practicing their oral presentations. The time and labor, and blood and sweat, which went into prepping for this competition cannot be taken lightly. And though with each week feelings of inadequacy would rise, these students put on a brave face and soldiered on. After all, once the egg is broken, the omelet must be made.

The day of reckoning came on the 26th of February where students went to the Kenyatta School of Law and put on their best show. The appellate category teams easily got into the quarterfinals that were taking place the following day. On Saturday 27th, it was wonderful to have both teams qualify for the semifinals and one team qualify for the finals. This was the team that came home with 1st Runner’s up trophy. Both teams were exceptional.

The arbitration team also did well as they qualified for the final round on the first day and won on Saturday.

These teams scooped the following prizes:

  • Winning Team Arbitration Category: Patricia Njeru & Mercy Simatwo
  • 1st Runner’s Up Appellate Category: Allan Wang’ang’a, Jeremy Barkley & Ruby Nyaoro
  • Best Male Oralist: Andrew Ojowi
  • Best Team Research Paper: Andrew Ojowi, AnnBeatrice Njarara & Ivy Shiechelo
  • 1st Runner’s Up, Best Researcher: Ivy Shiechelo

The winning teams were awarded with paid internships at JMIles & Co. Arbitration, and Kaplan & Stratton Advocates.

The teams attributed their success to God Almighty as their source of strength and refuge. In addition, many thanks went to Ms. Balla Galma, Mr. Harrison Mbori and Ms. Emma Wabuke, who worked very hard to ensure the teams were ready for the competition, and also Ms. Jerusha Asin, Cindy Wakio, Francis Njoroge and Roy Kitur for their support.

 Congratulations to the winning teams.
