Alex Kiwara Irungu is a Graduate Assistant at Strathmore Law School and a graduate of the school’s Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) programme, which he completed with First-Class Honours. He was named to the Dean’s List in every academic year of his study, from 2022–2023 through to 2025–2026, reflecting a sustained record of academic excellence throughout his time at Strathmore.
Alex’s law school career was distinguished by strong involvement in advocacy and moot court, most notably as Member of the Strathmore Law School team at the 2024 John H. Jackson Moot Court Competition. Through the competition, the team won the African Regional Round and were First-Runners’ Up in the Final Global Rounds. Alex personally received the Best Orator award at the same competition. In recognition of this achievement, he was awarded a full tuition scholarship for a combined Master of Laws (LL.M.) and Diploma in Advanced Studies (DAS) programme at the World Trade Institute, University of Bern.
Alex has also played a leading role in the Strathmore Law Review (SLR), the school’s flagship academic publication. He currently serves as Editor-in-Chief of the SLR for the 2025–2026 volume, having previously held the roles of Senior Editor and Head of the Finance & Partnerships Department (2024–2025). His progression through the Review from Associate Editor (2023–2024) and Senior Editor (2024–2026), culminated in his recognition as a stellar legal mind in research and writing.
Beyond the Review, Alex has held several research positions within the university. He is a Research Administrator at the African Legal Education Research & Innovation (ALERI) Hub for 2025–2026, and is currently the Principal Investigator on a research project examining the role of experiential legal education and community-university engagement in advancing access to justice in Kenya, conducted jointly with Strathmore Business School. He previously served as a Research Assistant at the Strathmore Centre for Law and Policy (SCLP), assisted Dr. Witney Schneidman’s research during the AGOA Bootcamp hosted at Strathmore Law School, and supported research on the African Continental Free Trade Area. Between 2024 and 2025, he prepared research memoranda on the administration of the Common External Tariff under the East African Community’s legal framework, work undertaken under TradeLab Geneva. As a Pre-Fellowship Candidate with the ILINA Program (2023–2024), he researched developments in AI law and policy, including the European Union’s AI Act and comparable legislation in China and the United States.
Alex joins Strathmore Law School as a Graduate Assistant, bringing with him a strong foundation in legal research, editorial leadership, and advocacy.
