
Max Ayaga Liambilah is set to graduate with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree from the University of Nairobi. He is a Certified Professional Mediator (CPM) and an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (ACIArb), Kenya.
Max holds a Diploma in International Human Rights from the Institute of Human Rights and Democratic Governance (IHRDG), University of Myanmar. He has also completed advanced professional training in Disability Rights, Minority Rights, and Indigenous Peoples’ Rights at the University of Pretoria, an Advanced Certificate in International Dispute Resolution Mechanisms from Leiden University, and the Spring School on International Law at the International Institute for Strategic Research.
A budding legal scholar and researcher, Max is the recipient of several scholarly distinctions, including the 2025 C.B. Madan Award for Scholarly Excellence, the 2024 Prof. Kariuki Muigai Essay Award (Golden Prize), the 2024 Model United Nations essay Award (Silver Prize) and the 2026 Data Protection and Governance Essay Competition (Golden Prize).
His research experience spans several national and international projects, including the UNESCO O3 Plus Project; the Amboseli Socio-Legal Research Project (funded by FAO Kenya); the State of Alternative Dispute Resolution in Kenya (funded by the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, Kenya); the State of Judicial Independence in Africa (funded by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom); and the Mediation Compendium 2024: The State of Mediation in Kenya (funded by CIArb Kenya).
Max’s research interests include public international law, international environmental law, international criminal law, alternative dispute resolution, human rights, and artificial intelligence.
