Dr. Antoinette K. Kankindi has been a Senior Research Fellow in the Integrity Program at Strathmore University since 2013. The recent notable project she has been at the helm of are “The Student Civic Initiative at Strathmore University’s Law School”, as well as “the Youth and Women’s Participation in Community Development and Public Life”. A Congolese citizen and scholar working extensively in higher education for over two decades, she has gained wide cultural awareness working in East Africa and Europe. Dr Kankindi was the Director of Strathmore Governance Centre from 2009 until 2013 and received her PhD in Political Philosophy in 2008 from the University of Navarra, Spain. Her dissertation on “The Ethical Foundation of Politics in Charles Péguy’s Thought” was written in Spanish. She completed her Master’s in Governance in 2005 from the University of Navarra, Spain. She has retained her role as a Senior Lecturer teaching Ethics and Social Political Foundations of Law at Strathmore University in Kenya since 2004. A highly rated lecturer, Antoinette’s field of expertise, based upon the relationship between Ethics, politics and law, covers governance, political legitimacy, and historical and new interpretations of the republican and liberal democracy traditions. Her work assesses these components’ impact on African ideals, values and institutions and raises important points in the discourse on integrity in public leadership and development.
Before pursuing postgraduate studies in Philosophy (Rome and Pamplona) in 1999, Dr Kankindi obtained an LLM and an LLB from the University of Kinshasa. She worked as a legal officer on the legal advisory team for Chevron Overseas Co. in Kinshasa and later at the Chilean Embassy for national and foreign policies. Her contribution to various projects empowering university students and underprivileged young women in DRC at the time aligns with her work to date.
