Dr. Claire Adionyi is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya. She is a holder of an LL.M in International Human Rights Law from the University of Groningen in the Netherlands. She holds an B (Hons) from the University of Nairobi, School of Law and a Post-Graduate Diploma in law from the Kenya School of Law.
Dr. Claire is the Research Coordinator at Strathmore Law School, the Acting Director of Strathmore Institute of Advanced Studies in International Criminal Justice (SIASIC), and a Research Fellow at Strathmore Centre for Law and Policy.
She is a member of the International Association of Penal Law – Young Penalists, the International Commission of Jurists – the Kenyan Section, and the Law Society of Kenya.
Dr. Claire has an interest in International Criminal Justice – an interest that has seen her focus her teaching to courses in this field and she also serves as the Academic Lead for the International Criminal Justice LL.M of Strathmore Law School which LL.M is affiliated to the Strathmore Institute of Advanced Studies in International Criminal Justice. She also has a keen interest in international human rights and its interplay with criminal justice in the context of the rapidly changing global order where the digital revolution and the rise of artificial intelligence will shape the future. She has also conducted research and prosecutor training on wildlife and human trafficking, and the right to health.
Dr. Claire has participated in the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Education for Justice International Expert Group on Teaching Wildlife, Forest and Fisheries Crime. She was also lead researcher for the publication of a database titled “Who is Who: Organisation’s dealing with Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) in Eastern & Southern Africa” that is a comprehensive resource tool of stakeholders in Eastern & Southern Africa in collaboration with Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) and the International Nuremberg Principles Academy.
Dr. Claire is a Visiting Scholar at Symbiosis Law School in Pune, India under the aegis of the International Association of Law Schools (IALS) and she has previously worked as an Associate Advocate at Meritad Law Africa Advocates, a Programme Associate at the Kenya Human Rights Commission and a Research Assistant at the Global Health Law Research Centre in the Netherlands.
