Francisca Pretorius has over 8 years’ experience in the legal field, both as an academic and practitioner. During her student years, she has tutored and mentored students in Roman Law, was a founding member of the Pretoria Student Law Review and worked as a student legal counsellor at the University of Pretoria Law Clinic. Through her legal training and employment with Smit Sewgoolam Inc. (Johannesburg, South Africa) she has been admitted as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa and is currently the youngest associate in the firm. Francisca has assumed various leadership roles, supervises candidate attorneys within the firm and represents a number of clients, including a Nasdaq-listed South African-based payment solutions company in respect of commercial, corporate, compliance and other legal work. Francisca continues to develop her legal skills and experience through her concurrent employment at Strathmore where she lectures Legal Practice Management and Foundations of Roman Law. In addition to lecturing and practicing law, she has been actively involved in civic organisations and cultural activities since her student years. She was chosen as one of the 100 Brightest Young Minds in South Africa, volunteered at the Fortune/CNN/Time Global Forum in Cape Town, and performed as a violinist with various orchestras across South Africa and abroad. Francisca holds an LLB from the University of Pretoria and an LLM (International Trade Law) from the University of Stellenbosch.
