Argentine embassy visit
Strathmore Law School was honored to receive a courtesy call from Her Excellency Ambassador Gabriela Martinic, the Ambassador of Argentina to Kenya, on 19 th September
2022. She was joined by Ms. Natalia Acevedo, the Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of the Argentine Republic to Kenya, as well as a friend to the Law School. The Ambassador and Ms. Acevedo were welcomed on entry into the University by Dr. Jane Wathuta, Mr. Allan Mukuki, Dean Peter Kwenjera and Mr. Eric Saulo the Director of International Relations of the University as well as Elvis Cosmos and Malcolm Kibati. The Ambassador was impressed by the beautiful architecture of the university. Based on first impressions, she would easily strike anyone as a person that values humility and the opportunity to serve her community in whatever way possible. At different instances, she alluded to the fact that receiving university education is a privilege that University students need to value. And that privilege in itself should be used to leave a positive impact in the life of others within society. From an observer’s point of view, the courtesy call was also a reminder of the value that collaboration yields.
Ambassador Martinic was also very impressed by the robust system in place at the Law School. She mentioned that the robust research centres, institutions and opportunities that the law school offers will go a long way in nurturing all-round lawyers. The world is certainly in need of lawyers who are not only well-versed with legal concepts but also additional skills that would complement the legal knowledge that they receive. The world is truly evolving and so should legal education. Her kind remarks in the University’s visitor book affirm her intention of being a long-time friend of the university. The discussion on possible low-hanging fruits of collaboration for the law school and various institutions within Argentina would surely excite any student. We are truly elated to see the results of the future collaboration that law students will get to benefit from as a result of the meeting.
The Strathmore delegation gave the team from the Argentine mission, a tour of the Sir Thomas Moore Building and the artworks on the different floors. Not forgetting the
Anjarwalla and Khanna library, Microsoft Policy & Innovation Centre and the Microsoft Auditorium. One thing that stood out from the visit is the fact that collaboration is a key pillar for anyone who intends to positively impact society for generations to come. The meeting is without a doubt the first of many to come between the university and the Argentine delegation.
Some of the benefits that may result from future deliberations between the mission and university, will go a long way towards strategically developing holistic professionals. It is not every day that an ambassador tells a university to keep doing what they are doing. This truly says something about Strathmore as a university.
